Chlorine Container Gas Leak Emergency Equipment

What is a chlorine emergency kit?
The emergency kits are designed to contain most leaks, except for a full container breech, that may be encountered on chlorine containers. The kits operate on the principle of containing minor leaks in cylinders, tanks and valves, by applying hood or gaskets (or both) to area(s) of leakage. To this end, patches are provided for sealing off small holes in the side walls of chlorine containers, and gaskets for the repairing of valve leakages. The kits also contain the necessary tools and step-by-step instructions to effect the necessary repairs.
Why should I have a Chlorine Emergency Kit On-Site?
Leaks in chlorine cylinders rarely occur. However, when they do occur, an immediate corrective action is required by trained personnel with special equipment or serious harm can occur. Emergency Response and other personnel must be trained in the use of the devices and tools within the Emergency Kit A. Training must include the use of respiratory equipment and all other safety equipment. It is recommended that personnel should also have proper knowledge of chlorine gas.
Personnel and off-site public safety are of primary importance. Emergency response, is the responsibility of the chemical user, and should only be performed by authorized personnel who are trained in the procedures and are equipped with suitable respiratory and personal protective equipment.
